Overview

OPeNBooK Co., Ltd (オープンブック) was a Japanese video game developer founded by Yutaka "Yoot" Saito in 1993. It is known primarily for its SimCity-inspired simulation game The Tower (also known as SimTower). It merged[1] with 9003 to form OPeNBooK9003 in 1996.

OPeNBooK's employees would later break away from the merger before being absorbed by Yoot Saito's second company, Vivarium.

History

Here is the full history, including post merger, of the company:

  • June 1993 - Yutaka Saito founded OPeNBooK.
  • 1994 (Heisei 6) - The game software " The Tower " is released (initially only for Macintosh ).
  • April 1996 - Saito establishes Vivarium Co., Ltd.
  • October 1996 - 9003, inc. , which produced games such as Aquazone , and OPeNBooK merged to form OpenBook 9003 .
  • 1999 (Heisei 11) - Sega releases the Dreamcast game "Seaman: Forbidden Pet."
  • March 1 , 2000 OpenBook Co., Ltd. (first generation) was established. It separated from OpenBook 9003 and established a new company centered around former OPeNBooK staff, inheriting the copyright of "The Tower."

On the same date, Open Book 9003 changed its name to Cinomix Co. , Ltd. and inherited the copyrights for "Aquazone" and "Pina." Vivarium

  • October 2004 - Open Book Co., Ltd. (first generation) absorbed Vivarium Co., Ltd., and changed its name to Vivarium Co., Ltd.
  • April 28, 2005 - Nintendo releases the Game Boy Advance software "The Tower SP."
  • April 13, 2006 (Heisei 18) - Nintendo releases the Nintendo GameCube software " Otama ."
  • April 25th 2007 - Established subsidiary Digitoys through joint investment with Genki Co., Ltd. (170 shares of Vivarium, 30 shares of Genki).
  • October 18th 2007 - Sega releases the PlayStation 2 software "Seaman 2: Peking Man Training Kit."
  • June 26, 2008 - Digitoys releases the Nintendo DS software "The Tower DS."

Open Book (2nd generation)

  • 2009 (Heisei 21) - The company absorbed its subsidiary Open Book and established a new company, Open Book Co., Ltd. (second generation).
